Beauty and the Beast.

This past weekend we were scheduled to go to the French Riviera, the travel agency group we were going through canceled the trip because not enough people signed up. So the owner gave us the same hotel information so we could still go. We went the morning of the trip to the train station to purchase our train tickets. We ended up getting the cheapest tickets (that included 4 different trains, 3 different switches). We switched in La Spezzia, Genova, Ventimiglia and arrived in Nice about 8 hours later. The train ride was literally right alongside the west coast of Italy into South France. I was in awe the whole time, Sam was embarrased to be seen with me. I kept saying, " Whoa! Sam look!" After about 10 minutes of this, I'm pretty sure Sam started to block me out. The coasts of Italy were unbelievable. Full of mountainous cliffs with little colorful houses covering them overlooking the deep blue turqouise waters. The whole train ride was like this. When France came along the cliffs diminished a little. It was still just as beautiful.

It was a weird change to convert to French from Italian. As soon as we arrived in Nice, we basically settled into our hostel and hit the sack. We were exhausted and felt gross. The next day we woke up to get ready for Antibes, we went to see the Nice beach first. Nice beaches are pebble beaches, no sand. It was actually just as gorgeous as a sand beach. After seeing that we hopped on a train to Antibes. Antibes is known for it's Picasso musuem (previously Picasso's mansion) on the coast. We stayed there for about 3-4 hours. On our way out we went to get sandwiches. Mine had fromage (french cheese) and crudo in it. Their cheese really is something amazing. Once we arrived back to Nice, we took a quick little nap. That night we went to a well known Nice restaurant. The next day we went to Monaco. Which is beautiful (surprise surprise). We toured the island and went to the Jacques Cousteau Aquarium. Now I'll stop blabbing and let y'all look at the pictures from the weekend.

RIP Butter Bear, you will be missed and not forgotten. I know Jesus deserves you more than me.

RIP Ollie dog. You have made the McElhannon family happy for 14 years. We will never be able to replace your place in our hearts.

I miss home, but I will be back before I know it. I am trying to soak up as much of Europe as I can.

  1. I enjoyed this blog Beth. I enjoyed the photos, especially the fishie photographs. And the Ollie one of course. And I know I say come home soon, but you do need to get as much of that foreign country as possible, you don't get that every day!
    Keep havin tons of fun!
    P.S. send some Italian food.
